Suns of Times is an immersive installation, a sensory journey inspired by the narratives of the artist’s father, a native of Diriyah. As visitors step into this experiential space, they encounter a sanctuary for contemplation and tranquility. Through the power of evocative scents, the installation revives faded memories, connecting individuals to past places and eras. Commemorating the evolution of spaces and the intimately personal odyssey of self-discovery, the encounter is universally resonant yet uniquely tailored to each visitor.
The installation draws from memories of the farm in Diriyah, highlighting its significance as a vital source of sustenance. It encapsulates the artist’s father’s upbringing, where he sought solace among palm trees to escape labor and draw inspiration from the books he hid in the hollow palm trees. The farm, once a childhood playground for the artist, served as a space for family connection, nature exploration, and an escape from the routine of modern daily life. As the artist’s father grew older, the space evolved into a contemplative retreat reflecting on origins and the journey of self-discovery.
Suns of Times is a monument dedicated to the artist’s father, commemorating his journey of self-discovery and enlightenment, shaped by the memories of the palm tree farm in Diriyah. The title pays homage to his legacy, drawing inspiration from his column in the Riyadh newspaper, where he shared reflections on the changing times.
